Falling space junk mistaken for UFO

NACOMM has reported it received the following through its UFO report system:

       Location: Raymond, WA
       Date: November 14th, 1997

Many people saw what looked like a plane burning up or a large meteorite storm
over Raymond, WA at 9:07 p.m.. It was strange though that it continued to go east
without dropping down toward the ground. It seemed to be traveling very fast also.
There were many tailed lighted objects, at least a dozen. We called the local police
station and they said they had many calls but did not know what it was. Our
concern is that it could be missiles. It would be nice to know what it was we have
never seen anything like that before. My sister-in law said here son saw something
like a burning plane earlier in the evening also, around 4:30 p.m.

The UFO was in fact the body of an old Russian rocket which was burning up as it re-entered
the atmosphere. An AP news release reports that a Seattle-based UFO investigation agency
received over 40 calls related to the incident.
